Zone Rugby & Netball

Our Lincoln Zone Rugby & Netball competition is on Tuesday this week, Please make sure you bring a good lunch and plenty of water. Players will need a pair of shorts to play in with their own school track pants worn over the top, you will be given your Rugby jumpers, Netball skirts and School Sports jackets at school before we leave. Thank you to all the wonderful parents who have given up their time to help get us to the tournament.

Cultural Festival

We will be practicing Kapa Haka Wednesday and Thursday afternoons 2-3pm. Girls please make sure you poi are always at school for these practices. The Festival takes place on Friday Week 7 at the Christchurch Town Hall.

Scavenger Hunt – Grown ups keep lots of interesting stuff from the past such as papers and "artifacts" with clues to your family history.

Give yourself one point for every artifact you collect. Five bonus points if you get Grandma or Grandpa to help you with your hunting

TOPIC

This term our Inquiry topic is about Treasures – an object, place or person who is highly prized or greatly treasured. Your homework task is to create a poster that has a picture or photograph of each of the types of treasures – object, place & person that your family all agree are treasures. Each of your treasures must include a description about what it is, where it came from and why you and your family consider it to be a treasure.

Zone Rugby & Netball

Our next Lincoln Zone competition is in Week 4. We will be practicing for this Wednesday and Friday 2-3. Boys will need a change of clothes and shoes, along with a mouth guard (no mouth guard no play). Girls will need a change of sports shoes A big thank you to Mr McIntyre and Mr Cantwell who will be coaching the rugby.

TOPIC – We Will Rock You

Research and information gather the answers to your questions about your selected natural disaster. This information is required by Monday 31^st May to help with creating a presentation using ICT tools to share your knowledge about the cost – human and financial of the natural disaster and whether it is a short term or long term cost.

Remember if you are working with a partner, they are counting on you to hand your part of the homework in on time.

ANZAC DAY

Choose 3 or more of the following activities to be completed and brought to school to share over the next 2 weeks.

Thank you Cards

· Make your own thank you cards thanking Returned Servicemen for their efforts in the Wars.

· Send them to your local RSL or RSA.

· Visit the local RSL or RSA to give your cards personally and talk to some of the Returned Servicemen and Women.

Research

· Research how many wars that Australia and New Zealand have been involved in.

· Watch any documentaries of ANZAC Day. Pretend you are a Soldier At War.

· Write a letter to a family member telling them of your experiences at war.

Bulletin Board

· Focus on newspapers, magazines, library books, TV and the Internet and collect any historic “Anzac Day” news and information found.

Interview

· Interview a Returned Serviceman or someone who experienced the war.

· Ask them about their experiences and memories.

· View recorded film interviews of returned ANZAC Servicemen and Women.

Dawn Parade

Visit a Dawn Parade in your area.

Time Capsule

· Create a time capsule for the future.

· Set an appropriate date for the opening, e.g. the 75th anniversary of the ending of World War 2, which will be in the year 2020.

Uniform Comparison

• Find photos or war personnel (maybe even family members), visit a Museum, and compare the uniforms worn today with those of the Great Wars.

Anzac Holiday Project

Operation Anzac Forces

As part of this year’s Anzac Day commemoration the New Zealand Defence Force would like to invite Year 7 and 8 students to enter OPERATION ANZAC FORCES.

How to enter
Design a poster showing NZ Defence Force personnel working overseas today. This can be in the medium of your choice (drawing, painting, collage etc) but please no items larger than A3 size. The competition closes on Friday 23 April.

There are three main prizes up for grabs:
a. A day at Devonport Naval Base, plus a NZ Kiwi cap as worn by NZDF personnel overseas
b. A day with the Army, plus a NZ Kiwi cap
c. A visit to RNZAF Base Auckland or Ohakea, plus a NZ Kiwi cap
The winner will have first choice, then the second place getter.
Four runners up will be awarded a prize pack of Defence Force products.

Winners will be announced on Monday 10 May.
