Welcome

Welcome back to Burnham School for 2013.  Your child is part of our Senior Leadership class; we have an exciting and challenging year ahead of us.  It is important that our home-school partnership is strong in order for each and every Room 6 class member to make the most of their learning throughout the year.  Please send me an email with your up to date contact details, these will be especially important for receiving information about your child's progress during the year.

We will be starting the term with a sport focus on Swimming, School Swimming Sports takes place on the 21st February, and those who are selected will take part in the Lincoln Zone Swimming Sports on 7th March. It is important that children bring their togs everyday, also a navy blue wide-brimmed sunhat is compulsory for children to wear outside in Terms 1 and 4, this includes for fitness, PE and walking to and from the swimming pool. The Senior Leadership class also has the important responsibility of encouraging our younger children to wear their safety vest to and from school, it is compulsory for all student to wear their safety vests every day including school outings.

Children in Yrs 5 - 8 will have the opportunity to take part in the Lincoln Zones Triathlon either as an individual participant or in a team. If your child is selected to participate please encourage them to practice their discipline (swim, bike and run) as part of their after school studies.  If you are interested in helping to assist on the day of the event (Tuesday 18th February) please email Whaea Sam samwalker@burnham.school.nz, we will need parents to help in the roles of Team Manager, marshalling and recording.

Room 6 will be on camp at Wainui 16th April – 18th April.  This will be a fantastic opportunity for the class to strengthen their co-operation and partnership skills, challenge their boundaries and learn about the environment.  More information including cost, gear list and medical forms will be sent out towards the end of February, please email me with any questions you have. Parent support is essential in order for our school camps to take place, I will need to have confirmed 4 parents who can commit to coming to camp.

Please make sure you keep up to date about what is happening at school through our newsletter, if you are not receiving it from your child please visit our school website: www.burnham.school.nz.  A Home Learning sheet is attached.  This gives a wide range of activities to include for your child’s homework.  Later in the term I will be starting a Science Club that can also be included in your child’s home learning.

I look forward to chatting to all families in the next few weeks, if you would like to come and see me in person please either email me or call the school office.  We have a Meet the Teacher/Back to School Picnic from 5pm next Monday evening.
