why mercurys day is longer than its year

a year is how long it takes mercury to orbit the sun. a day is the time between noon to noon. the time differences between mercury and earth is very different.

mercury speeds around its oval shaped orbit in just 88 earth days, less than a quarter of the time it takes earth to complete the orbit around the sun. mercury is the smallest plant in the solar system

this plant rotates on its axis so slowly that the mercurian day is longer than its year. the first space craft visited mercury in 1974. mercury is the closest plant to the sun.
